In 2002 Elliott Modular entered into a 10-year agreement with BAA to provide a wide variety of modular accommodation for all seven of the company’s airports.
The first project was Terminal 5 where temporary accommodation modules were designed at offices in Peterborough, manufactured at factories in Peterborough and Thame, and delivered as required for installation at the site at Heathrow Airport.
Around 1,500 modular units have been installed in different compounds around the T5 site ranging from single anti-vandal units to three-storey office accommodation for up to 1,000 site based office staff.
Catering facilities and shower blocks are also available for site workers, and laboratories have been provided for testing concrete compounds.
All units on this project are now in place and a relocation project will commence at the start of the year to complement building progress and site redevelopment at Terminal 5.
Modular units used airside are two-hour fire rated which prevents fires from penetrating the building for two hours. In the case of accidents with aviation fuel this would enable the occupants of the units to evacuate safely and in plenty of time.
